This thread is not to discredit Req. He created WOL and is the supreme being. But Req can only do so much. He has a life and wants to get a new version of the game out. Along with that he is trying to redesign the website and make changes to the current game that he feels is necessary. Req does a great job but its time we start helping him.

To do this I have decided to organize and lead the WOL community, so that Req will not have to do all the work for us.

Right now I think there are 4 major things that we can do to help Req. This will allow him to spend more time on creating the new version and fixing the bugs in this version.

Website design: Req has shown an interest in developing a new website, one that might draw in more players. I need several of the players who have skills in this area to volunteer to help develop a new website, and one of those to volunteer to lead the team.

Graphic Art: Req has stated that he has everything he needs for the other unit types such as undead and fantasy except the picture of them. I need several players who have skills in this area to volunteer, and one of them to lead the team

WOL Manual: The current manual is outdated and needs to be updated. Giving information of the currently available techs and upgrades. I would like the new version of the online manual to be more newbie helpful. This will include a "how to build" for each building including before and after pictures. Also an explanation of the RPS and the ZOC with pictures to aid in understanding. I would like several experienced members to do this and one to lead them.

Marketing: There are two aspects to this, one designing the layout of the new website and two finding ways for WOL to generate more money for Req. I need players who have skills in this area to volunteer and one to lead them.

These are in no way small projects and the teams will have to communicate in order to complete them. That is why I want a team leader for each group. It will be easier for the team leader of one group to ask the team leader of another group to produce what is needed, as the team leader will assign projects to the team based on skills and abilities. Also it will be easier for Req, if he has one person in each group to communicate with.

I do not expect Req to step aside. WOL and WOK are his creations. But instead of doing everything himself he will be able to tell each team what he is looking for and let them make it for him. Then he can review the work and request changes until it fits his vision.

Finally I would recommend that each team set up a place on waronliner, that way they have a place to talk and work out problems.

A couple of thoughts:

First, you have to email Req and ask him what is feasible in the way of helping him. Otherwise this is just talk.

Req said he set up an Administrator system so someone or a group could do housekeeping duties such as clearing dead clans, fixing minor game glitches, etc.

Rog asked Req to make me moderator of the forums, something I'm happy to continue to do.

As to art, website design, etc., I think many of these things could be subbed out to us but we would need a lot of direction from Req.

Fund raising is a noble effort, that could certainly be done with or without Req.

Other than that, I have no problem myself with you being the leader of this effort, GK. Go ahead on, girlfriend.

You are correct Mog, right now it is just talk and Req is definetly going to have to provide his input. I thought my post made that clear. I've listed what I feel the four major areas are that we need to get going to help Req. Until we have teams for those areas going to Req really wont do any good.

The manual and the website teams could begin to work on updating and making the manual more user friendly. This would not require massive changes to the manual. Just adding links so that user can more easily find what they are looking for. Like a link from the spot in the resource buildings data that says you have to take over resource buildings, to the spot in the military faq page that tells players how to take over buildings.

The art team could begin developing buildings for the demons. It would be nice to have some demon campaigns. Also they could develop the rest of the troop types and the buildings for the other character types. As they finish one they can submit it for approval. Then Req can either say yes or say I was thinking along these lines and have them alter it.

Of course once the teams are developed we can goto Req and say here we want to help what do you need us to do?

So, you guys are finally dealing with the 'if Req vanishes' issue.

Don't get too woried yet though, he's apparently alreday helped out LOD, and when I left him last night I'd drafted others in to help him, tried virtually everything, and gave up in the early hours of the morning
That Req fixed him not long after, is a good sign

I've already suggested manual changes before, but Req was pretty sure he would have a new version and it wouldn't be needed. the sample page is probably still sitting in the forums somewhere, probably in the suggestions box

Perhaps you should promote Mog to bugfixer, seeing how he's learning flash, I hear?

Much of the "bug-fixing" woudn't be in Flash but in the database system. The Flash part of the game is limited to the maps, I believe. things like deleting players, fixing game problems, etc. would have to dealt with in the actual code.

I think I would be more useful as one of the art team or the manual team. I'm open to either or both.

No CTD, this has nothing to do with the "if Req vanishes issue". In the future it may become that, but that wont be until there is a better leader than me. I chose to make myself the leader, because I felt that if I suggested it, and we went about electing one, it would become nothing but a joke. Much like the current democratic elections in the world. Right now there is work that needs to be done and somebody needs to get it going.

Req supports WOL in his spare time. There is no reason why some of us can't provide him with some relief. The online manual needs to be updated and made a little more user friendly.

Our job wouldn't be debugging code unless and until Req ask for it. Right now our job would be to help develop a new website, update the user manual, provide artwork, and attempt to find means to help req generate more revenue from the game.

NH - its not about us telling you what to do, I've listed the work that needs to be done. If you do not feel qualified to do any of those things then you could possibly review website pages when they are done for accuracy and correct spelling.

Mog - if you think you can be a value to both teams then sign up for both.

I intend on working on the manual and if no one else volunteers I will lead it. But as I intend the WOL leader to be the one who communicates with the leaders of the teams to keep projects moving, it would probably be better if each team has a seperate leader.

I am not asking you to devote massive hours of your time to the projects. One or two hours every week or two would be enough. Once this gets underway we can find a place to store the files so all team members have access and can work on them.

Now you have a choice, you can continue to be freeloading whiners, or you can help to make WOL/WOK the greatest game online.

I've put the word out 'on the grapevine'
Hopefully, Req will now find out about this sooner rather than later, if he hasn't already. This sort of thing USED to be my quest, but I seem to be pretty redundant these days, so I figure I'll let you get on with it and just help connect things up

So, your proposing a government like Iran? There will be a "Supreme Ruler" with no power and/or influence in politics, and a president, who cant do anything but has a lot of influence. I dont want WOL to be like Iran, no offence, Gengis

What we need is twice the number of players and half the number of games available so you can actually play here.

I have a brilliant idea on how to increase the number of players on this site. We smuggle computers into Guantanamo, and let the prisoners play WOL. It would also liven up the forums a bit, too. I can see it--half of the post having the words "recruit" "suicide" "explosives" and "Allah" in them.

No demo this has nothing to do with creating a government for WOL we don't need that.

This is to form a resource pool, so that some of the projects that need to be completed (updating the online manual, creating the pictures for the other races, and developing a new website) can be worked on. Allowing Req to use his valuable time to finish the new version and fix bugs in the current version.

These projects are all things req has shown an interest in, but the more time he wastes on them the less time he has for fixing game problems and finishing the new version.

Just a word of advice. There are people such as myself that check up from time to time to see if there have been any changes made. This could be an amazeing game, but it stopped in developement a long time ago. Ive been a member of this community for a long time (not as long as some of the others here). Do you have any idea how many people like me are just waiting for a change? Some of the ideas of the actual players to be implemented. Why is there a suggestion thread? So people can spam? I think it is a waste to set this game up and then just neglect it. Yes as harsh as it may shound this game is being neglected. It could be amazeing - and alot of us would come back. I have about 8 real life friends that use to play this game. None of us do anymore. Example you ask? Demonic in champaign- (was suppost to happen)
what about all the other races? wouldnt that be interesting? ahh no one cares- wasteing my breath

For a truly wonderful WOL experience I nominate Lokibolp for WOL leader.

Unlike Mog, Lokibolp makes sense!

You were thinking again Mog!... I thought we had an agreement you'd stop doing that! Just be your own instinctive self.

Ghengis I am at your command if you need me for anything and I pretty much talk for the whole clan as I am sure that Bogo or Huit or even our Zander would.
