Is it possible to disband for example just 5 units of a 1004 unit army or does selecting disband army cause the entire army to be lost?
I used disband once to be able to add another army but I forgot if it allowed "disband count".

There might be something else you can do. Perhaps you could take it back to barracks and put a few back?

Although, make sure there's some of that type already in the barracks, if that bug's still around - or those troops will vanish into the ether

You can no longer get troops back into the barrack as undeployed , that was looooong ago

Make another stack, and transfer some out - you CAN do that, afaik
