A game needs to be filled up before it starts right now oyu are in a queue for it. You will get a msg about when it starts, one turn ahead of turn one.

Along the top of the GAME SCREEN you should be able to see the word GAMES. If you pass your mouse pointer over that word GAMES the words CAMPAIGNS and BATTLES will be displayed.
If you click on the word CAMPAIGNS it will take you to a screen where you can join long *medieval war games*;
But as a BEGINNER you will have to join a BEGINNER game which you can do by *clicking* on the arrow that points down near the word GENERAL and then you will be able to see the word BEGINNER which if you click it will take you to a list of BEGINNER GAMES that you can join.

If instead you click the word BATTLES it will take you to a screen where you can join shorter BATTLE GAMES and there are some different character types available that you can play;
But again because you are a BEGINNER you should choose a PRACTICE GAME which you should See, Even though you really can join any of those games that you See Listed.

It's possible to learn how to play in just one day by *left-clicking* wherever you are able to do so and then by trying to understand the resulting information.
Basicly you must keep in mind that in order to access anything on the screen, your mouse pointer should appear as a *hand with a finger* pointing to a *word or words* you can then *left-click*;
So with that in mind try doing what I have advised and see if you can find your way into a game.

You must also keep in mind that you cannot at this time join a game already in progress;
So you will have to join a game and wait for An opponent for the BATTLES or opponentS for the CAMPAIGNS.
One last comment is that I AM forgetting that players are having to wait to get into a game, and I do want new folks to try *left-clicking* on everything they see in the game to see the resulting information that's given;
So please do be patient and do attempt to continue this self-teaching method after you have successfully entered a game also.

*** IMPORTANT EDIT ***
I have come to realise that I have forgotten an essential ingredient for this to really be helpful and that is that once you are in a CAMPAIGN GAME especially, it is most usually necessary to move units especially like COMMANDEER units NEXT to things like mines and woodmills and THEN CLICK on the map object too see the given information like a TAKEOVER BUTTON for example;
So again keep doing as already mentioned especially when you move any unit NEXT to something and especially when the unit is a COMMANDEER.

PS:
There are some helpful LINKS on the HOMEPAGE also
by Mog
and after trying what I have advised, ask a question where it says,
QUESTIONS in the FORUM if you need more help and I'm sure someone will be happy to help you.

Many of us have experienced just getting a white screen when we tried to open the map or the screen openning but the map not loading.
Before I continue are you allowing popups at this site?
You must allow popups and you might have to try the same procedure that follows over again a few times before it will work.
The only other things I think are that you must have the latest version of "flash" installed and at least I think explorer 5 or better.

Here's a solution that has worked for some of us but again I'm not sure if it has worked for all of us:

a) Try logging out and going back to your homepage

b) When you are at your homepage, clear the URL field
and then type waronline.net/main.asp into the URL field WITHOUT " h t t p : / / w w w "

c) With waronline.net/main.asp ONLY in the URL field,
CLICK the "go arrow"

d) Now you should be at the waronline site but FIRST BEFORE you log into the site ERASE the " h t t p : / / " that has auto-loaded in front of waronline.net/main.asp in the URL field

e) Next CLICK the REFRESH button to the right of the "go arrow" which should cause waronline.net/main.asp to appear alone in the URL field WITHOUT " h t t p : / / w w w "

f) Now log into the game and try to enter a game and open the map and wait at least a minute the first time to see if it works

PS:
You may have to try this a few times until your computer gets it into its cache memory.
Also I think waronline.net/main.asp
WITHOUT " h t t p : / / w w w " should now be in your URL history and you should access the site with it in the future.
After a few times your computer should have the necessary information in memory and there should be no problem and I also understand this will NOT be a problem with the new version that is to come.

You may even want to first try rebooting your computer to get a fresh start before doing all of the above and it has even been suggested to "delete temp files" but I have not found it necessary to do that and I assume no responsibility for advising that (i.e. even though I think it is safe to do so if it is done properly).

*I have also caused the map to open by first trying to open a few of the other game screens first. It seems to have a "kickstart" effect and the map has been openned for me afterwards that way but I have had to keep doing it that way.

**Someone else also suggested just to RIGHT CLICK on the WHITE SCREEN and CLICK REFRESH in the menu screen that appears but I haven't ever tried that and I don't know if it works.

PS:
Anyone having a problem with a black screen (i.e. map loading is not initiated even after trying the above that I have suggested), you may want to try deleting temporary files and then try again the above procedures because I have found that apparently if you have no cache memory available, then you will always have to use the "kickstart" method I mentioned.
I have deleted temporary files and then did the procedure I mentioned above and now the loading of the map is initiated as soon as the open map button is selected
