| Posted : Monday, 24 June 2002 - 22:33 I am going on record to say that this new version has a touch of genius and greatness. I have always preferred a game with good content over super graphic effects and Requiem has amazingly given this game both.
I have reached turn #22 of Fast game #1 and I have been battling with Stealth for about 8 turns now. Its great I can't wait to unveil my ballistas. )
I only make the following suggestion for those who like to play a super fast game. Offer the game up also in a super fast version with all gold and resource income and supply increased by about 50% and cut all other costs by about 50%.
I have only one negative comment and that is that the terrain in my opinion should be openned up a little more. I understand about natural barriers and all but the Chinese built the Great Wall I think probably to hold back the snow. )
The Romans liked to build walls also and strategically located fortresses. I thought I missed building farms and mines and things but there is still plenty to build if only I can afford them.
One other thing is that I think a game like this with a turn every hour would be as fast as I could handle.

well, my plan was to make Skirmish games the "different" ones. by increasing income/troop production there it should make it more interesting for those that like sheer mayhem.
also, i think fast1 uses the first map i did. its a much more closed in, maze-like map. the other map is far more open. it all depends on the maps.
a turn every hour i think would be impossible to play properly for any length of time. as soon as you sleep, you miss 8 turns! alot can happen in 8 turns. | | Protoman Z Joined 1/01/2002 Posts : 590

A lot of people sleep longer if they don't have to get up early. | | Raptor Joined 15/08/2001 Posts : 2616

| Posted : Tuesday, 25 June 2002 - 04:14 I feel a need to clarify my last statement pertaining to turns every hour. Somewhere Req said something about a game with only four players and five minute turns.
I like games with many players so I said that in a game of this type I couldn't handle turns closer than an hour apart meaning that I couldn't manage very well with five minute turns.
I know you are all going to think, "Where did he say that?", but really that's what I was thinking about. | | Requiem [R] Joined 3/02/2000 Posts : 3851
| Posted : Tuesday, 25 June 2002 - 04:17 well, that was pertaining to a Turn-Based game, not the current Time-Based model we are using now.
which is why you couldnt have more than 4 players or so. you'd basically play your turn, hit an EndTurn button, and when all players in that game have ended their turn, the next turn starts.
pretty simple and very fast if you only have a few players involved that are online the same time as you.
This is my plan for Personal Games anyway. | | Protoman Z Joined 1/01/2002 Posts : 590
| Posted : Tuesday, 25 June 2002 - 06:10 The problem with that occurs when someone doesn't get on to hit the end turn button.... | | dby Joined 30/03/2002 Posts : 1441

| Posted : Tuesday, 25 June 2002 - 07:18 If u plan for Hourly turn...I dun think I sleep. Now I already had an alarm ringing every 6 hour for my fast game ..lol anyway maybe a 4 hour game except begininer? | | Xion returns Joined 21/06/2002 Posts : 46
| Posted : Tuesday, 25 June 2002 - 08:56 Dig this a turn evry 30 mins an the game lasts for 5 turns per day!!!
The game could B open from 1pm till 3.30 pm ANother different game could B open from 3.30pm till 6pm
This would make the game short an sweet an a huge battle could happen in just 1 day!!!! | | robintankp Joined 12/06/2002 Posts : 222
| Posted : Tuesday, 25 June 2002 - 09:07 Ermmm I think I mean a turn every 4 hours. And if u want to hope a 4 hour game like what u say...then what time we going to use. U must understand that all of us live in different time zone so may post a problem. But a turn for every 4 hour may be fine...what u think req? | | Requiem [R] Joined 3/02/2000 Posts : 3851

| Posted : Tuesday, 25 June 2002 - 18:09 Well, we can but wish - although my guess is that Req's 'to-do' list is already as huge as the tech tree | | TaurusRex Joined 14/06/2002 Posts : 3595
| Posted : Friday, 15 July 2005 - 10:35 Mog when the old version was replaced by this version, I would estimate that about 20% of the old following didn't even give this version a chance. They just liked the old version but obviously Req was not happy with things like for example players using farms as walls and players who could play more often being able to gain advantages by being able to do things more quickly. Well so this version where the game was basicly played in a predetermined environment that had to be conquered and enhanced was offerred to us.
Admittedly I too at first missed some of the old features but I started playing this version and realised there was so much more to it that I started to feel empathy for Requiem who had given us this class game with all this effort and was silently tolerating unflattering comments about it So I started this thread and almost immediately attitudes started to change and today of course those of us who still play the game think it is the greatest. Now Requiem is working on "War of Kings" which I'm sure will be as great as this version has been with even much more.
PS: I'm saying that the problems are not with the game. The problems are with us when it comes to these questions of honor. There have been some changes to the game that we admit that we like but we don't seem to be willing to admit that the changes have caused an imbalance NOT to the game but to our IDEAS of HONOR. Also this is an old thread that I moved up just to answer a question that was asked in a thread that has been closed.

| Posted : Friday, 15 July 2005 - 10:42 I agree.
One thing I Love about this game is that it changes. Little things that can make the difference between an unfair advantage, and an even playing field get added all the time.
Things Do get tweaked, and then there are Big changes like these recent ones.. It's good. Keeps us on our toes.
I will never complain about Big Changes, unless of course they are COMPLETELY horrible.
I have been eagerly awaiting "War of Kings" for a very, very long time .. and to be honest, I will RUSH out to obtain a Credit Card to continue playing WarOnline if it Ever goes Reqs way and ventures into the Forced P2P realm.
Even though I don't play Often, I would happilly support this game, just for the Interest it keeps with me with the changes, and upgrades and all the little things that just make WarOnline Great.
So, as TR mentioned, a Hats off to Req. You know you're my hero ;-)
Now until I could be bothered to get a credit card, come over for a few beers anytime mate :-P hehe
Lots of Love, ~Mal Kavian
PS: In regards to the "honor" thing. I don't believe that's a Game Based thing. Nothing Req could do would eliminate that aspect of the game. It is always upto the PEOPLE who PLAY the game to decide HOW they will play. Unfortunately for us, we had the Great pleasure of having an Extremely honorable and respectful community for a long period of time. So now a lot of "us old types" still Expect these things, as a granted.. But we do have to work towards it, and even still we may be betrayed. It's a definate shame, but it's a part of the evolution of the game I spose.. Last Edited : Friday, 15 July 2005 - 10:47|
