This seems to have worked fairly well, though we'll not be able to act on our shared intelligence since the game's almost over, but in a standard game, for all practical purposes, how useful are these background alliances and deals? |

Normally, there are two basic agreements, NAPs(non-agression pacts) and Alliances. Naps can be agreed upon for different lengths of time and you may have a nap in force with more than one player. Alliances are considered more permanent agreements, but can be in different forms(defensive only), or full agreements in which your ally assists you in offensive movements as well as defensive ones.
The crucial point to remember is that you define the agreement as much in detail as possible with the other player(to avoid disagreements or misunderstandings)...agreements have been broken without prior notice and you must expect that possibility and guard against it.
As you play, you will learn who you can trust and who you can't....usually comments are made concerning broken agreements in the 'chit chat' forum, from time to time. Read those forums and learn from the experiences of other players. Last Edited : Wednesday, 27 November 2002 - 18:42 | Stealth Joined 11/11/2001 Posts : 126

But if you want to go to war with him after you take out a bigger threat then it would work good for you because you can do a little spying and prepare for it. I don't know of a temp alliance that I didn't have a NAP with. | | CrimsonSerpant Joined 1/06/2002 Posts : 535
| Posted : Wednesday, 27 November 2002 - 18:54 two comments, i dont think its right to use an alliance to spy on a guy just so u can fight him later
and the seconds is that the best allainaces are with players u know and u knwo can trust, like some1 whos been playing for a long time and no one has anythign bad on them or some1 u know | | Nevermor Joined 22/11/2002 Posts : 2

| Posted : Wednesday, 27 November 2002 - 20:58 I have only had a few temp alliances the time that I have played on wol and I never went to war with them afterwards but if you do go to war you will either use the knowledge you know or say thats spying and I don't want to do that and I don't know anybody who is going to lose over something thats not really dishonorable.
Alliances are all about honor. You respect the alliance and the person and you won't have problems. Naps are alot of times made to protect a flank or something. | | sugarleo Joined 4/05/2002 Posts : 2720

However, I don't think your ally would love you for this :-) | | Egregius Joined 11/07/2001 Posts : 3168
| Posted : Tuesday, 3 December 2002 - 19:32 Temporary alliance are nice, but permanent alliances give a much more comfy feeling. In a permanent alliance you can share all intell safely. In a temporary alliance it's just waiting to be backstabbed (or to have the alliance dissolved at a for him most opportune moment).
However, it's nice to make a temporary one against a common foe. | | savetuba Joined 5/11/2001 Posts : 1313
| Posted : Tuesday, 3 December 2002 - 22:48 just remember that it is not wise to make alliances/NAPs with all of your neibors, because when you march on someone, that person is going to be accross that map and it will leave you wide open for invation by any one of your NAPs or allies.
Another thing to remember, don't make NAPs/alliances with 1/2 of the map, because then who are you going to attack? what happens when those few that you didn't NAP/ally with die off? What if one ally asks for help against another person who is also your ally? | | RedTony Joined 16/11/2001 Posts : 210
