| Posted : Thursday, 10 July 2003 - 18:38 I went and picked a fight. It is turn 19 and I still have not started producing archer units.
I am strong in Squires, Pikemen and scouts. I have my gem pool and started this war to prevent my neighbor from getting his. With a little luck I will even prevent him from getting a pile. His comm is just outa range next to a pile of gems. His lvl 6 scout and lvl 4 sword are red splotchs. Should have jumped the turn before. Trying to have my cake and eat it to by letting him clear the path.
I hear the rumble of marching troops any suggestions?
Ps. Dipso, you know I trying to lure you into the hedges so I can block you in and balistra you to death? Don't you? |

It's been tried in normal games and doesn't work unless your opponent is eithet a) 'under-staffed' or b) incapable If you REALLY have no ranged, your best bet is to try slow down your opponent as much as you can and avoid any major casualties until you have at least a little ranged support
Of course, if your opponent has no ranged either... |

| Posted : Tuesday, 15 July 2003 - 17:52 Eh gads. All that tech and no resources to bring stuff out.
Making stupid choices know I shouldn't. I knew I needed to retreat before you even got that scout in position. Just too dang hardheaded. Well at least it is a good kicking. |

| Posted : Tuesday, 15 July 2003 - 18:15 Worry you to death thats all. Can you belive I screwed up so bad as to let you kill over 150 archers like that?
Thats where the retreat comes in. If I had retreated instead of trying to bring my squires up to gang on your swords I would be sitting pretty with all those archers behind me. Instead of trying to get fancy and letting you flank me.
Blah disgusting. |

I'm still waiting for a surprise tho. And no - I dont count those scouts coming round your castle as a surprise. |

I got the troops to chase you off. But I can't bring them out. I'm dying here. I got high tech when I need low and cheap. I need iron. To bring out the squires and pikemen. I don't even have enough wood to bring out my archers. Bought all those upgrades and did not even get the battle bonuses. This turned into a real mess.
Bad buys causing my supply to be messed up. Bad moves on the field causing my troops to be slaughtered. I'll probably hold but it will be by the skin of my teeth.
No great general in this game. Nope I'll be doing good to beat you off and be taken down by my other neighbor.
It has been fun. In a sick sort of way. |

| Posted : Thursday, 17 July 2003 - 20:13 well the only non range tactic I know is to simply out mass them. Make lots of low tech, cheap units like scouts/spears and you can get archers upgrade real cheap too. |

| Posted : Thursday, 17 July 2003 - 23:17 I have always had success, by killing their range with my range, thus they have no range.... best no-range tactic I can think of... oh, and use towers and Outposts to out-range them...
whoa.. that's a lot of range. |

| Posted : Friday, 18 July 2003 - 10:31 I think at this point the only option is to go scout.
I got archers in the barracks that I can't bring out because I'm buying squires.
I got pikemen I can't bring out because I'm buying squires.
I got squires I can't bring out because of a lack of resources.
I am seriously thinking of droping 8000 for a market upgrade and just buy the dang stuff. I know I'll go bankrupt if I do though, but maybe I can afford it with the stone I sell.
But a stack of 200 scouts does a good job of wittling on squires and the archers did not do that much damage to it. Mere 23 scouts to archers and 7 for 25 squires in attack Last Edited : Friday, 18 July 2003 - 12:39 | Tserrof Joined 14/07/2001 Posts : 173
| Posted : Friday, 18 July 2003 - 13:53 Settled the problem by selling half my castle including the towers. Kinda interesting solution to a siege. | |
