I'm confused how come i can not pick up resources?

Not until turn 1 begins.Turn 0 is just for the deployment and movement of troops.

If its passed turn 0 move troops next to the resource and then click on it. A button will appear on the left hand side saying "destroy from" - just make sure your troops have enough points to do this, otherwise you just get a msg saying "no troops available to do this"

and then u get a nice resource bonus
