I like the idea of a rock-paper-scissors format. There is only one problem I have found. The Militia unit is too weak against Spearmen. I use the rock-paper-scissors format to figure out weakness in troops and come to find that the militia is too weak. Does anyone have a comment about this?

Indeed. I never use swordsmen or whatever they are called nowadays. I't not worth the effort when you can stop spearmen with other spearmen put on defense. If you have archers behind, so much the better.

Use scouts. Scouts destroy spearmen even with the R/P/S. As long as they attack first.

Swords vs Spears (from the dreaded combat calc)
100 100
86 alive 70 alive
145 exp. 79 exp.
In 4 turns the stack of spears is gone and there are 71 swords left. That to me is not an indication of weakness.

Scouts vs Spears
100 100
85 alive 79 alive
100 exp. 109 exp. (not good!)
In 6 turns the stack of spears is gone and there are 51 scouts lefts. Do the math.

So the RPS modifier is not the total picture, it does help, but the damage, att/def modifiers and the bonuses they all play an integral role in the final result.

Well the spearmen don't produce 66% faster for nothing.

Someone should do 36 scouts vs 54 spearmen. 36 Scouts are about 40% more expensive as well if I'm to believe the manual. But I think scouts have slightly too much hitpoints anyway, considering they're scouts.

yea in the manual it only says it gives a lil Advantage not an instant win so it really just depends on luck and if u have a mess of commandiers close to ur units its what i normally do if im out numbered place the Commandiers groups (normaly have 2 together)in Def and send them close to the unit i want built up and i go in R/P/S Advantage of not and i USUALLY win but there is always that "Fluke" of a chance....i still lothe him for lucking out on that attack i would of won too

But Pikemen beat HeavyCavs & Falchoniers! Problem is another - need no new rules, need new troops!

that all depends on the strategy of your opponent, if he uses pikemen i will use paper units, for example swordsmen... they are not so bad as they seem to be.
