I HAVE A STRATEGY OF SPLITTING UP MY TROOPS WHEN I BATTL TO TRY AND SURROUND MY ENEMY. DO PEOPLE THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA OR IS IT BETTER TO KEEP THEM ALL TOGETHER AND ATTACK IN MASS?

really the only way a small amount of troops is good is when you are protecting range...and if its with spear...otherwise its a waste of troops

Depends on what you bring to the battlefield... If it's a small but strong force I would never split them because then they will each be subject to an attack... by splitting you are probably referring to using the snow and swamp area's to try to encircle and ambush your opponents... well using Med troops I would never do that... as the troops on the green stuff can move faster they can strike at your "green" army first before reinforcements from the snow or swamp can arrive to do anything... btw everybody can count so if the troops in front of them don't add up they'll be expecting troops from somewhere else...

In short, if using med troops don't split.

Oh, I'd never use a calculator and add up the troops in front of me to predict what flanking forces there are.

On flanking, I'd tend to have something on the furthest flank just so I know what the other person has, it's amazing how often the answer is nothing and I waste a spearmen for 4 turns until he hits their marksmen.

The problem with flanking is that it takes to long to be effective. Unless you are using demons who can fly.

So far I haven't had much luck with split forces. A truly devastating first strike from everything you have is probably your best hope and that won't happen with split forces.
