I'm sure most will say you need a balance, but I have found that if I don't get some gems real quick, I'm in trouble.

Am I right on this?

Well no, I never find myself saying that. In campaigns I only want gems to trade them in for something else that I need and in clan games the gems you start with and find are plenty.

I'd say gold is definately the most important resource in clan games, where you'll likely start fighting early and not have much time to tech up...

I have played an entire Campaign, and finished well, without ever owning a Gempond.

I would say its a tie between metal and wood
