Well it depends on the way you play, and what is the troop of the day, like if Heavy Cavalry are troop of the day, A good plan would be to have lots of HC.

But never do that if the troop of the day is like swordsmen.

BTW if you look through theposts in this forum, there will be many posts that will help you more, and gointo more detail.

a good choose is always: some HC, some macemen, some marks and some spears. for example 3HC, 3mace, 4marks, 4spears it always depends on the novice battle though.

Another strategy that can work is the "Macemen and Marksmen" strategy. In a 6k game, get about 12 marks, 4 or 5 Macemen and the rest spears and comms (1 or 2 comms) and 1 Heavy Cavalry. Hole up in a crack and hold off the opponent with Macemen and Spearmen while you decimate his HC or whatever. Move when necessary. Commanders add attack strength to pieces they are near, so keep them close to your Marksmen. This will work against most low to middle players, but probably not against top players.

Now, now, Sage. I did use your very words in warning him about better players such as yourself when using this strategy. C'mon, he would have thought of it eventually...
