yeah well, the other day, in chat i got some advice, no names mentuend, to put my arbs in front as a screan and i lost.So what units shuld u put in a screan

I do not know that many players use arbs in battles (I'm assuming your refereing to battles, of course).
But arbs are better in melee than swords and spears, plus have the range attack.
They do not move much but can create a SCREEN so the other troops can not pass.
I think you need to also practice exploting the ZOC to your advantage.
I admit arbs do not replace marks, and as screening they make good cannon fodder but they are not the best.

macemen work well as front line troops. They have great defense, they're expendable (unlike heavy calvary or knights) and they retal against all attacks.

The only time it would be the truth is if it's not an autobattle...
If it is an autobattle, you probably should screen with squires or pikes, depending on what you have, how many you have, and if they are weak to the enemy's unit type (ie. if you have both squires and pikes, use squires to screen since the pikes will be plowed by the pikes).
I don't know if arbs are a good choice for a screen. If you have no other melee, then sure, use them. However, if you do have enough melee to make a screen (keep your elites safe for the attack rather than the defense), use them instead and have the arbs attack the front line of the opponent's screen.
That's my $.02, and it might not be as useful as from others here with more experience at the game, but it still helps (I hope).

Well, he didn't mention any names, but it was me. We were in chat and he was in an auto and I told him to use the arbs as a screen. I should have said squires. He lost. I apologized. However, due to the pieces in the battle I thought that the arbs would be better fodder than squires. They were a better choice than marks at least!
Once again, I apologize for my lousy advice, linkasy. Don't ever listen to beings that are part dog. That is my last piece of advice.
