Ok, I've changed the Damage system to randomize PER TROOP.

As ^ector suggested, it calculates the damage range for EACH TROOP in your army.

This of course means, the more troops in the army, the more averaged the overall damage will be.

Eg, 100 troops doing 11-18 damage, only went above/below 14.0-14.99 twice in about 50 attempts.

Of course with fewer troops, the randomness will be more apparent.

I also hope to include Moral into the new version. Im just looking at the options at the moment.

doesn't help us out much with battles, where the randomness REALLY affects who wins the game, though...

Can you PLEASE make, I dunno, a type of battle where troops always do a fixed amount of damage? It can be seperate from the others, and we STILL won't know exactly how much damage the troops will cause....nobody is gonna take the time to figure in the bonuses from attack:defense and the like

I say we just try for a while the change Req has put in, especially if it's simpler from a programming viewpoint but accomplishes the same goal.

I feel if it's a good wargame, it has to have some element of randomness. In the case of WoL, possibly less so for melee than for ranged (think gusts of wind, tension settings that aren't guageable), but there needs to be some. The question really is how much makes for a good game.

Not to mention, if any of the games formula's were all fixed, that would begin to attract Bot players.

Actually I like the idea of random damage but if we have been playing without it, perhaps some of the overall reductions in damage (i.e. both ranged and melee) were not necessary and should be put up again.

Battles still have a lower random range now.

Given each army has 10 troops, the damage range is never the full range... ie, 11-18 would probably become 12.5-16.5

Of course, as you lose troops, the range gets larger. Which I think makes it more interesting

yeah, I feel like its MUCH more real now, and if you want to change the style of battles, change the stack size to match the level of randomness you want... use 100 pop stacks or 5 pop stacks if you want 10 times less randomness in starting troops or twice the randomness.
