I do not know if this has ever been considered, but I thought it would make sense to allow building roads.

We could then connect our castles, strenghten our defense lines or prepare the concentration areas for our offensives. The larger the map, the more important this would be.

Roads should not be allowed very cheap, however. They could also require several technologies, so that building a communication network would have to be a serious committment.

It could also cost more to build a road in the mountains or in a forest.

yeah it's a good suggestion i think cause it is handy in Long games cause you can move you're troops way faster i think that's good

I don't know Req's CURRENT stance on roads, but "once upon a time" the building roads topic was all the rage, and Req said that he would rather opt for a game where the roads are part of the map and can't be built.

Again, I'm not sure what the current sentiment is, but I just wanted to give you the useless historical perspective.

The sentiment remains the same. Req doesnt want roads implemented.
Run a forums search for roads and you will see the reasons why.

what about roads being constructed automatically when enough troops in a certain period of time have marched along that particular way?

like you dont have to send commandeers to build a road, but you only need to send 200 men back and forth some 5 times to make an 'official path' appear or something?

The problem is to do with having to store all the extra road objects - practically making it a new layer in itself - rather tha just having it stored with the map as part of the terrain, like a gempond, mountain or woodmill. Not all the requests players would make
Worse, the game would then have to keep a record of how many units have travelled over a square so far. Messy

Ok, Cerby, but the game has already to store the new buildings...walls, palisades, towers, drawbridges and so on...
