With the "select and grab tool",
you can grab all of Denmark and Scandinavia and slide it west about 30 to 40 spaces. Then grab the British Isles, reduce the size 10% and slide it northeast so that the top touches the top edge and the "rabbit's nose" is about 40 spaces from the new location of Norway. You should then be able to see that you can move a section of France up and east and then next all of Spain to the center of the Alps can then also be moved up and east to close.

From there it is just a matter of trimming the borders but first also you must realize that the touch edge was not reduced as I had said before. The south, west and east borders would need to be trimmed and it still looks great.

about removing water, just cut it on the north edge and maybe turn it clockwise about 15 degrees?

I made the map pretty quick. Distorting the map will have to wait a while. I don't have the time right now. If anyone feels like having a go at it - be my guest. But is it really necessary? Does anyone know if larger maps present any technical problems? The huge areas of water doesn't have objects on it so that wouldn't be a problem.

Moving Brittain and Scandinavia closer might be a good thought, to open up more possible waterways. But what would Egregius and Klavert think?

And distorting the map does somewhat defeat the purpose, doesn't it? I'm not totally against the idea, but I'd like some input from more players before going to work on the map again.

Yes it is your work and I didn't want to take liberties but I can do this in less than 1/2 an hour and it does look great. I don't know how to send it though anyway.

PS:
I agree with you except that if the amount of "sea area" is an issue preventing its acceptance I can reduce it by about 40% to 50% but the land area also is reduced except that I can "cheat" along some of the coasts to regain land and reduce the sea even more.

Also they didn't have "concrete dikes" in "medieval days" so I personally wouldn't worry about it.

You could get some free homepage space and upload your suggestions there. GeoCities, Tripod, Fortune City etc.

I created a free yahoo account and I tried sending two maps that I changed as attachments to my yahoo account
but it failed.
A message said that the attachments were not scanned for viruses. I don't know how to do all that.

PS:
I used a different map but I can do it again with your map.
It's easy and even interesting to do.
It's too complicated to explain but (e.g.):
I moved Denmark and Scandinavia west as I said and I even created a faked land bridge at the eastern edge of the Baltic that looks great.
The Netherlands coast is still there.
I also expanded all the coasts about to the maximum so that it still looks like Europe and I would say that I have actually added more land than I trimmed.
Overall sea area has been reduced 50% to 60% I would guess.

Am I doing something wrong trying to send it?

PPS:
I tried sending the maps to my "yahoo e-mail address".
Was I supposed to send them to "geocities"?

Yeah, go to geocities.yahoo.com/
(or some similar service) and sign up for their free web hosting. It's nice to have some space on a server for homepages and stuff you want to share. They probably have some FAQ and simple tools if you're not familiar with stuff like html and ftp. It's not that complicated.

Okay I think I got this to work well enough to display an image or at least I hope so.
I'll know as soon as I post my link and try it.
I'm not sure but I think I was trying to learn how to do something that was more than I needed to display an image; and I think I am onto being able to customize my on page,
but I think that part of the problem I am having is that I have to start with a "blank page" so that I can put what I want on it.

I started with a "pre-designed page" and it does allow an image to be displayed which for now is all I need So here's what I've got:

www.geocities.com/marsgranite

Thank you for your help
and
"kingmen3"
Thank you also for trying to help through "pm".

Wow TR, that compressed map of europe looks pretty good. Could you try it with my map?

Well yes "dby"
I can do your maps that you have displayed here similarly as the one I posted (i.e. they may be slightly different),
but I want everyone to understand that
"dby" will still have to convert them with the "map editor" provided which although I tried to learn how to use one time; I wasn't even able to download it for some reason.

I'm just happy that "dby" likes my effort and is willing to try to use it but the finished product if it does get approved is all through the efforts of "dby"
and
"dby"
will you please repeat that you do "give me permission to make changes to the images of your maps of Europe that you posted in this thread"?

I want this to be a group effort, so go ahead and do what ever you want to the map I've posted above.

I can only go as far as making sure that the map is in GIF format with the right colours. Then Req is the only one who can add it to the map editor. Let's hope he does, it shouldn't take too much effort.

"dby"
Thanks for allowing me to help.
Here it is:

www.geocities.com/marsgranite

I hope you like it and I hope the "boss" does too.

PS:
If you select the whole map with the "paint select tool" and then click on "image stretch", you can change the "horizontal and the vertical" to 150% and increase the size by 50%. I did it with the other map and it still looked great.

Also if necessary much more sea area can be reduced by trimming the west edge to "Normandy" and the south edge to center of "Corsica".
A leg of the "Irish poodle" will be lost but the sea will be reduced to maximum.

I have another one that is compressed more and somewhat different but I can only show one at a time
So I'll wait until you get this one.

"save"
I'm using "screen print" and the "paint program" to do this. I'm saving the images as "jpg. files". I don't think I'm equipped to do it any other way;
but yes I know that it can be done more efficiently when I learn how to do "html code".

"save"
thanks for the offer
but
"Fanatic" has already provided a "public viewing site" under "Questions" which I will use in the future but not for these images because
I don't feel comfortable about displaying these images anyplace but in this thread.
I'm just happy to be able to help with this.

PS:
"dby"
I have three different views for you to see and I think the last two are best. So please wait until you see them before you choose which one to "convert" to "gif."
Actually "#4" is best IMO
but "#5" gives maximum "sea area reduction".

I put "#4map" into the page because I think it is the best one

www.geocities.com/marsgranite

but again I would like you to see all of them so you can decide which one you like.
