i think you should make the player of the year the player with the most POTM then it would make people vote sensibly

No exactly blood monger, as i see voting for POTM is little diferent, and in 12 month cycle, at the end of period you will take another look at people which are worth title POTY 
For coding it and making more immune to "strage results" make that voting at the last 2 month of the year, with admition checking date joined if before leting vote?

Personally I think we should go the other way. Player of the day it should be. Every friggin day we vote on somebody. That way we all get our 15 minutes of fame...wait, lets vote every 15 minutes, that way...
