I've given some thought to how demonics could work in campaign games.

It seems a bit silly to me that demonics would be out harvesting wood, mining iron and gold, etc. So instead of being based on economy demonics would instead be based on 'summoning points'. For each 'castle slab' controlled by a demonic they would generate so many summoning points per turn (their castles would actually be portals to hell where the demons come from - and not sure how they would convert an opponents castle to a portal...). The amount of summoning points generated per turn would be enough to allow the player to compete with a medi player producing basic troops - and the only thing that could be summoned would be the lower level demon types. Now, to increase the amount of summoning points generated the demonics have to destroy things. They get small boosts for destroying existing resource piles. Small boosts for destroying enemy/barbarian troops. Medium amounts for destroying neutral mines. And large amounts for destroying another players mines/buildings (gold and gems could be more valuable in this regard than the other resources). If you accumulate enough summoning points you can 'upgrade' one of your portals to be bigger - and thus allow the bigger demon types into the world (starting portals are simply to small for demi's to fit through you see).

Discuss it, refine it, clean it up, have fun with the idea. (Then Req can squash it cause he has his own ideas and plans )

I can't believe I'm about to say this but *gasp* I LIKE FAN'S IDEA! lol it's a rather good suggestion Fan. However maybe one could somehow figure up a way to tech up the "summoners" so that instead of someone getting stuck just being able to summon up lower level troops they can tech it up like medieval are.

Fanatic, this is not a bad idea. I have a question though... once a demon unit destroyed a regular mine for the "...Medium amounts for destroying neutral mines..." what happens in the next turn? Do they keep getting this 'boost' in their regular income or is it a one-off thing? If it is a one-off thing, then where does the regular income come from?
Maybe, demons will need to take over a mine and turn it into a conduit into hell or where ever, to get their resources and thus get an increased production rate or just a small production rate from a regular mine. I would expect demons to be able to use resources in the same way they used them in whatever world they're coming from.
Or maybe as you say, Req's nightmares will decide things for us anyhow...

They could either sit by the mine for 5 more turns while it regenerates, or move on to whatever battle and let the back up reinforcements destroy it again when they pass by. Medium is just a relative term compared to small and large. Getting medium from a resource should be enough to let them hire a fair sized group of troops to work with. Enough to continue to pump out reiforcements anyway for the typical size battle for a turn or two. Ideally they will have troops destroying different mines around their starting area on a regular basis. So then it becomes a balance of sending more troops into battle, and getting a decrease in summoning points in hopes of overthrowing the opponent quickly, or risking losing a given battle in order to keep a study supply of summoning points coming in.

Regular income would be generated from owning a portal (castle slab) just as medi players get 1000 gold. I don't know what demons would do to get the equivalent of taxes/tax reform. Unless upgrading to a bigger portal size also gave a boost to basic summoning points too.

Just some more thoughts, should a player be able to spend all available summoning points each turn - even if they've been saving for 50 turns and suddenly summon 100 demi's all at once? Or would it make more sense to limit the amount of summoning that can be done each turn. This would result in a player having surplus summoning points if they are doing well, but medi players get the same surpluses in resources. Or maybe, each time you summon something from a given portal in the same turn you have a increasing cost that provides diminishing returns. e.g. summoning 1 neeht might cost 3 points. Summoning 2 would cost 7, summoning 3 would cost 12, etc. Summoning 1 demi would cost 100, 2 would cost 235, 3 390, etc. (just sample numbers only)

this will in turn disrupt the whole game!!!!
If demons get things for destroying mines and resource buildings + their castle is a portal, there will be no point for a medi player to attack him, and the demon guy would do all the attacking, and evan if the medi guy attacks, what the hell is he gona get for it? this would completely unbalance the game resulting in demon players getting benefits from attacking while medi players do not.
IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA unless the medi players get something back from it like, faith points or something, which in turn will let the medi player upgrade his stuff with the power of god(well you know what I mean)
+ shouldn't the barracks be portals?

I like the idea of Demons being destroyers. How about giving them the ability to steal resources from Medieval players.

Maybe Medieval players can steal them back or gain automatic upgrades by destroying higher level demons.

Link, as a medi player everytime I kill someone elses units I get gold... Everytime I destroy someone elses resource building I get resources. Every time I take over someone elses resource building I get the benefits of collecting those resources every turn.

Think. Then post.

Fan, I think linkasy might actually have a point. He is talking about the long term effect not the immediate resource winning from destroying something. Don't be so harsh on the kid

There's lot of work needed on this idea... not bad as it will introduce diversity, but then again.... aren't different units and flying ones at that, enough?

Your right Rog, sorry link. I believe it could be worked though that as demo's are 'teching' up to bigger demons would fit into the same time frame that medi's are teching up to better troops. Would come back to skill in controlling resources and key points on the map (harder against flyers). Things would have to be taken into account that a medi player could crank out 4 HC per turn per barracks, so a demo would have to be balanced to getting 1 or 2 demigods per turn for the 'equivalent' summoning point cost.

there is also the idea that demon players will be able to create a continues stream of demons.

and the gold gaind from attacking peopl isn't that great, its a random amount(or it could be a bit of the units cost) but in reallity it doesn't really help produce troops very much.

How is that different than the endless stream of mace I have when I have 3 castles to someone elses 1?

Balancing how it works is implied within the creation of the different pieces/'economies' and so forth. If both players own 1 castle/portal and each have access to the same number of resource buildings, then given an equal skill level in the players the combat should be eternally in a dead stalemate.

Mines, wells, woodmils may change (after capturing by demons) to portals, but they produce less demon summoning points than medi mine, instead demon player gain more from battling, (3/4 from portals 1/4 from loots)
Demonic "barrack type" building will produce low lev demons only, higher may be only summoned by summoners.
Instead of producing Techs they will be Higher school of magics and "Very Disguistings buildings" which allow producing of certain demo type.

Will Undead just be medievals with ugly bodies? or, will they be able to turn enemies with a bite? Can we recreate Dawn of the Dead?

hmm
now for the mechanics

would a player be able to have an endless supply of demons (like med with MA)

and we know demons can fly would the flyingdemons be given a -50% against range since these guys can just jump over anything and are expert killer cause they have no problems with zoc?

so a med needs a barracks and a demon only the castle? should they also need a "portal" that the summoner will build into a 4X4 building and the castle just be a slab that generates summoning pts
so that a med player has a goal on how to destroy a demon player
so a demons summoner will have to be protected also..like commandeer

the idea of a new race is to add to the game with slight changes but not affect the total game by adding a new race...
