From there it sort of depends on what you plan on doing.
If you're planning on attacking very quickly go for those techs that increase troop production and armor/weapons, and terrain techs of the type you'll be fighting in.
If you think you'll be waiting a while, focus more on the marketplace and techs associated with it and upgrading your troops.
That's a good general place to start I think...

| Posted : Friday, 25 February 2005 - 00:52 Well, obviously those that aren't going to help you right now...
All techs are useful depending on what you're doing.
Take me for example. I hardly ever build walls. So most of the time researching those techs is a waste for me.
Many other people use walls extensively. Those techs are then quite important to them.
If you're looking for some tech that's completely useless, I don't think you'll fine one. Though like I said, you may find one that's useless to YOUR particular strategy.

| Posted : Friday, 25 February 2005 - 20:59 Try so far as possible to weigh each tech in terms of how quickly it can pay you back. Obviously taxes pay you back in only a few turns making it ideal. Weapons techs are next to useless unless you expect war, but if you're already fighting a war it's as good as buying extra troops. Work with the numbers as much as you can stomach.
People recommended here you get econ techs. And you can usually determine to some extent how long it'll be before you see some return on your investment. Less obvious, and a good skill to have is to know when war is coming - because the sooner you are aware of it, the more time you have to prepare, and so those hard-paid-for resource building upgrades don't go straight into enemy hands

| Posted : Friday, 25 February 2005 - 21:49 if I have non agreassive or semi-friendly neighbors I concentrate on economy, if I have neighbors who seem bent on wandering around my land or staging troops on my borders I work towards walls instead.
It depends on my situation. If I want to attack someone I build techs towards getting cats and Balistas. Ifs funny how u can use large ammounts of garbage troops to screen some cats and then pop their barrackses and leave them Hurt before they realize they DIDNT have an upper hand. Falch vs Swords is only advantageous if the guy with swords doesnt smoke your barracks 3 to 5 turns into the fight. | |
