OK, perhaps I missed a game change, but if not...we could have a bug.

I just placed a squire army into defense mode and then attacked a pallisade (storming a castle). The squires delivered the attack but shifted back to regular mode. Should this happen? I thought I noticed this during the my last castle takeover, but now I'm sure of it.

So..is this a new change, troops in defense mode changed back to regular mode if they attack? Further, does it make any difference if they are attacking an army or a building?

Puzzled.....

Well in my clan's latest clan game both me and my main opponent attacked each other's troops in defense mode, and it didn't revert back any troops to normal.

So it looks like this bug or new feature or whatever isn't in effect when attacking troops.

Yep, it appears then when attacking buildings in defense mode is when the 'switch' occurs.

So....are we calling this cheap way to get out of def mode bug exploitation or feature? For the record
(seing as it's unlikely Req will notice and fix it just yet)

Well, it would be interesting to see whether the 50% BP penalty was in effect when they attacked. For example, if you have 100% BP and attack the building, you'll be left with 0% but only do half the damage you should have.

If the 50% is taken out then I don't really see how this could be called an exploitation. But I don't know if it is or not...

My squires were at 103%bp I think, I switched to defense mode with the bp% cost incurred and then attacked a pallisade doing the regular 250 damage. After the attack, the squires were back on regular mode at 0%bp.

I also found out when placing some 5 pop spys out in Def mode that You can MOVE in def mode too.

I was also attacked by an enemy and the was allowed to attack him in return (i died so i dont know if it switched modes) but this shows its not just buildings that can be attacked.

So this is more of a bug that lets you gain the benefit of def mode and still be able to be offensive. Shall we call it the Defensive Attacker bug?

Unless I'm missing something everything you've described is how it's supposed to work StCrispin.

(1) You CAN move when in defense mode, but it takes twice as much MP as it would otherwise.

(2) When in defense mode you can defend yourself from attack (retal).

(3) You can attack anything while in defense mode.

I'm not sure which between #2 and #3 above you're referring to, but either way it sounds like it's working properly.

so defense mose doesnt do anything except let you defend against multiple attacks? My defensive scouts moved 13 spaces so im not seeing any move reduction.

I thought you werent allowed to move towards and engage someone while defending... maybe im just dim witted but i thought it meant u were defending (as in digging in) etc...

Im going to just have to put my guys in Defensive mode before attacking from now on so I can retaliate from all attacks instead of just 1!

You won't retal from ALL attacks, just 2.

If you really did move 13 spaces with your scouts, that's a bug. My recent use of the defense mode included the extra MP cost.

You also lose some of your unit's attack value (and gain some on defense).

Since this is still the Bug Report forum I'll stop here, but if you wish to continue to argue the usefulness of defensive mode as an offensive strategy I'll be glad to set you straight in the strategy forum.
