Otherwise the poster can edit it back...

My opinion is that the edit should be announced simply by first asking the poster to edit it himself for one reason being So that we know that the moderator has intervened.
If the poster continues to make unacceptable posts, IMO he should then risk reprimand and then even possible deletion.

PS:
Sorry if anyone thinks I'm being too serious, but is a person supposed to be able to continue to insult, harass and offend with abusive personal attacks as the moderator follows behind and does an edit?
Maybe not only locking the *edit* but locking the *submit* should be considered (i.e. e.g. for maybe a month for first offence and then 3 and then 6).

If there isn't some type of enforcement there will be those who won't take it seriously if asked to stop politely.

Anyone who re-enters an edited comment will have it deleted. Continued infractions will be dealt with by Requiem as he sees fit. This could include deletion from the game. If he wants to put in a "no edit" button, or whatever, he probably could, but that's what a moderator is for, to keep it out of his hair.

I edited a cuss word from a recent post, no need to tell anyone about it. I mentioned it to the player, a member of Wol in good standing and he said he was angry enough to put it back in, then thought better of it and edited himself.

We ALL want to tell certain players to go and..........and also..............while holding a live.............and twirling on it!
But we can't. Much as in the rest of life, venting can be expensive. So bite that tongue, it's tasty and good for you too.

Mmmm, blood, tastes good...

So what are your powers as moderator Mog? Can you transfer posts if they are posted in the wrong section? Can you ban a person from posting on the forums? Would be cool if you could ban a person from the forums for a certain period of time for them to cool off. Where forum ban period is selected by the mod and they'd still be able to play the game. All these questions are not really important since our community is nowhere near big enough for any serious problems to arise, but then again better to plan for the future and be optimistic right..

How come you are not allowed to moderate the suggestions and notice sections? I'd think since they are the most important ones that's where a mod would be needed the most to clear any rubbish away. Its not like you would delete any crucial suggestions, eh, Mog? (Assuming you are not yet a corrupted forum P..err Cop.)

I don't know why I can't moderate the Notices or Suggestions. I guess I could ask! PS, nobody but Req should post in the Notices forum.

I have no power to ban forum use and I don't want it. If everybody minds their manners, I have no function.

If someone decides to mess with a moderator on any game forum they can be deleted by the game creator. Req has deleted very, very few players over the years. Most obnoxious posters go away pretty rapidly and if they don't, as Req said to me, they get sort of frustrated if the moderator keeps deleting their posts. I'm not power mad, but why test me? I will do what needs to be done about whatever problem arises. If that means going to "the man upstairs" (Mr. Req) to solve the problem, then so be it.

Once again, I can edit posts, delete them entirely or close a thread. I can't stop anyone from making the post in the first place.

Are we allowed to ask how the editing is done?

The editing is the same as you would do to your own posts, an edit link shows up in your post for me too. Also a delete link and a close thread button.

However, did you have more in mind with your question? Did you mean the steps I would take before editing? Recently there was a dirty word in a post with a period in it to make it get past the auto-censor thing. It was an egregious fault and I edited it imediately without mentioning it to anyone except the person who posted it.

If someone is harrassing or abusing someone else I would ask them to stop, edit anything that was over the line and let them moderate themselves before I would edit a post that has an opinion that could be stated without abuse.

For instance, if someone is getting gangbanged, I think it's OK to tell the circumstances and who the alleged culprit(s) are. What isn't OK is to hurl insults at them. Once one has informed the community about another's actions it is time for that person(s) to answer back, say it isn't so, apologize or whatever seems right to them. Others could chime in about that player(s) actions in the past, comment on the fairness or unfairness of play and generally speak their mind(s).

On another note, when you make a NAP, get a lawyer to look over your agreement. Really, try to make NAPs airtight so there is no misunderstanding about the terms later. Save the NAP message in a text file on your computer and if the other player reneges, post it!

Does that answer the question?

Well I'm satisfied that the means to do a proper job of moderating are at hand but how does the thread itself becomes accessible to someone who hasn't originally composed it?

Req just turned some switch in the forum software to share mod status with me, I guess. He did it in one minute.

Me, hope you don't mind, I was illustrating a point. I'll remove it if you like.

I thought you couldn't edit the "Suggestion" area?
I was thinking maybe it was Req having some fun.
It's okay
but that is quite a power ... isn't it?
I mean I hope it isn't too difficult to control.
