My original idea was to create a cross between AOE/Warcraft and Heroes of Might & Magic 3. These were my favorite type of games. I basically wanted to create a game that I would like to see out there.
Development was fairly slow at first, as I spent most of my time working as a web-development contractor. This left little time for game development, or research into new technologies.
By late 2000-early 2001, things started to take shape, and we moved to a Flash based map interface.
This was a major change that not only improved the game but also the number of regular players.
Since then, I've had a little more time to work on WarOnline.Net, and have been able to upgrade the website, improve gameplay and performace as well as add a host of new features. Of course, there is still so much more to do.
The other major factor in making this game what it is today is the enormous support from the players/testers. Their bug-reports, comments, suggestions and overall support has been amazing and a huge driving force and influence in the evolution of WarOnline.Net.
A huge thankyou goes out to everyone who helped. :)
