I'm beginning to remember some of the finer points... like not trying to combine troops of different levels, the importance of repairing resource buildings...

I don't know if I ever encountered LOD in the old days, he was so far out of my league and now I realize he didn't learn a whole new system, he is still playing this version! I expect some horrifying hellhammer situation soon.

When it says 255% that's because its a bug. 145 is what my troops that has been sitting for some time shows. Should you move they will instantly go back to 100 or less though

I keep forgetting troops can't pass through one another, that was one of the best changes ever made, I hate going to someplace I didn't want to go! The grey "possible moves" area is the other best change.

Yep, I almost made that mistake early in the game...but I think I still like this method...makes for more interesting play.
Positioning of your troops is much more vital this way...requiring more planning.
Love having one pops again...great defensive asset, leaving that bloody spot of a sacrificed troop for your foe to attack from...cutting down his attack capabilities.

The deployment of 1 pops isnt considered fair play though is it? I think the intention was to make it so that 5 pops is the smallest amount you can deploy.

Not Fair Play?!....It's certainly fair, IMO (thought you preferred the 'classic' game version, LOD)....doing so uses up a slot for a larger army, which CAN put you at a disadvantage. Both players have the option of doing this...each player has the choice...therefore completely fair IMO, the option is there for either to use.

It also has a downside...utilize a small pop (5 or less, for scouting or front line guards), but (like my current position) doing so has maxed out my current slots (having 3 small pops at the moment)...with troops needed in the field NOW...so I'm left with the choice, spend more gold and resources for another academy or chance waiting until my foe strikes back, killing the small pops before I can deploy more armies...delaying their arrival at the front lines.

Another thing to remember is that a 1 or small pop WILL NOT use up an armies' total offense (attack pts) or movement...it will use a small %, but the attacking unit can kill off the small pop, move and attack again....it will however slow down the attacking army AND of course leave a bloody spot, reducing those attack pts for the secondary attack.

This isn't a tactic that's simple to use, it takes advance planning and positioning in order to make it successful....just as a REAL army would utilize...having an advance guard that wouldn't be large enough to stop a major attacking force, but could slow down the advance and inflict some damage....warfare tactics...

I remember us having a lenghty and fiery debate on this issue in a clangame vs fsa wich resulted in us (AAA) demanding the use of 1 pops to be banned and also got Req to change it so that 5 pops was the smallest possible army to be deployed.
But as long as the majority thinks it's ok with 1 pops, I can live with that too.

AAA asked for one pops to be banned???
Damn...don't remember that, I DO remember that it was strongly debated and discussed at one point...but didn't think I endorsed a position against their use....perhaps I'm getting more senile than I thought.

I'd really be surprised if I actually spoke against their use....but perhaps I did....

I'm using two as border guards near Coop's area...another 3 pop (left from a larger army that was killed down to that level) as an advance front line guard.

If they were to be 'outlawed' so to speak...then an army should be 'killed' off completely when attacked if the damage crosses the 5 pop threshold.

It's not the same thing to have an army reduced to 1 after a fight than to produce them deliberatly though is there? But as I said, I can live with them..

Just so you folks know, I sent the following message to Crazy Li five or six turns ago:

Slow 1 Crazy Li,
"It is now turn 20 and I'll be turning my attention back to trying to capture your castle in about 3 turns.""

PS:
Lod,
are you trying to say that there's no such thing as: squads, platoons, companies, brigades and divisions in armies?
Aren't there assigned single unit scouts, snipers, suicide bombers
and machine gun nests with only about 3 men including the gunner, the loader and possibly an ammunition carrier?

You may change opinion once you meet a player with 50 one pop scouts and hoards of ballis that cant be reached.
