Well, everybody says the POTM (player of the month) is a popularity contest. It has turned into something weird and I should know, I got defamed and voted in at the same time!

How about Player of the Year instead of POTM? That way you would weed out the "one month wonders" and ease tensions about POTM.

Somebody would be the clear winner after a year of us watching, too.

Also, as an added bonus, Player of the Year would be "POTY" and Gutterfly would be overjoyed, he likes potties. He's a pottie animal!

that is good in some ways but others it is not like what if the player gets voted in and then something comes up and doesnt play for 8 months or so out of the year. remember things like that has happened to us all

i not a gold member or silver or ne thing, but i been playing this game sence '01, been on every day/nite.(but i did miss and day or 2 here and there, cauce of tech or persoanl problems). and i never have been voted for ne thing. i'm not high in rank(only 36) but i play the game cause i like the game, not to be vote the most popular. i mean i would like to been voted 4 something. like u said "one month wonders" or something like that.

I think the voting would only take place in December, not all year.

What about you can change your vote instead of not being able to vote again? Same as for POTM, since you could go back at the end of the month and maybe change your vote for someone who's done something truly outstanding.

Please don't fill bad 4 me not ever being voted 4. I'm not up set. but I'm not going to vote 4 someone who i never talked to or ever played a game together. just because someone sends everyone and popup to vote 4 such and such. I'm not going to vote. Yes i do know that alot of the players that have been voted 4, r good players and post alot of forums, gold members or whatnot. and i have voted 4 some of them n the past, still will.

kingmen...not sure exactly what you are saying...but it sounds like you think that only gold or silver members should or would get voted on.

Personally I don't think someone should necessarily be a gold or silver member to receive votes- i mean, they did contribute to furthering of the game with their money, but...I'm sure there are many players without a globe that are worthy of receiving votes...it's supposed to be about what you have done to either further the game or help the wol community in general.

And Kingmen...I vote for you...for being the best Kingmen at wol

Mog...are you suggesting doing away with potm and just going to poty? or are you saying that in dec. we all vote from the 12 potm's to nominate the poty? Any one month wonders would still have little chance of receiving the poty title...

It is just a suggestion and things would have to be worked out, but yes, just the POTY, no POTM anymore.
You wouldn't need to have to change your vote if it was a year-end deal.

but what if someone did something wonderfull like donate 1K to req in feb and by dec nobody but req will remember it. There would have to be a year recap, either that or a system of nominations/seconds.

Also since I cannot vote for my self king you got my vote, now get your arse into prancer's castle before I have to take it entirly over.

oh and I'm not an orb player, but I still got 5 votes, which 3 were from my multi acounts, where did the others come from? (JK)

Whats about counting votes from all year as i see in POTM ppl voting also for players which win in last months, so summing votes from whole year should work

it's better, but u need more then that to decide on who will can b voted.

lets say the player with the most wins, highest experence, less deaths, most active, ete, ete...can be on a ballet to "BE" voted for that month. then everyone votes on them and then the following month he/she will be the POTM.

not so much for ppl that post alot or who has the most friends, but it has to be "FARE" for all ppl not just a selected few. i have senn alot of ppl that have been POTM more then once. how fare it that to the rest of us???

it can't be POTL. there r new players all the time that good as if not better then ppl playing a yr. or better. maybe make it that u have to been playing the game at least 4/6 months.

i vote...REQ...hands down, oh wait he may not be a *player* of the year...but he sure is the *dude of the year*

or req gets rid of the whole PotM thing and thus doesn't have to worry about us sugesting wild and crazy ideas about a foolish topic.

Mog's idea for a Player Of The Year Award is a fine idea, although obviously is somewhat burdened by altruistic motives...

The rest of the debate deteriorated and trust me Kingmen, neither you nor anyone else currently posting in this thread (including me) even comes close to getting this award. There are many and numerous ways to conduct this and I can smell the Hollywood tendency before we have a New Player Of The Year Award and Spammer Of The Year Award or Best Looking Dress Of The Year Award. I can go as far as having Gutterfly in a sparkley dress standing side by side with Mog in his pink bow-tie hosting the ceremony while Sage6 is entertaining the crowds during the breaks. Don't be silly.

There must be some sort of award given for sheer results which can only be achieved with careful calculations regarding ranks and changing of ranks or exp gained etc...
Maybe the greatest increase in rank over a single year, the most exp gained over a single year, etc... Until someone comes with a fail safe formula to do such thing and Req approves it, there's gonna be no Player Of The Year Award regardless of certain individual's desire to be the centre of attention... yet again
