| Posted : Saturday, 2 April 2005 - 15:14 May he rest in peace. He was an extremely influential man...even for a pope. I only hope his successor will follow in his footsteps and lead the way John Paul II did when he was younger and healthier. The church will benefit from such a steady course combined with revitalization.
Time marches on for us all and the world has lost a great human being.

| Posted : Saturday, 2 April 2005 - 16:06 He asked to be moved to his Vatican apartment when the doctors told him he was going to die and he told his friends to stop crying for him and that he was happy. Yes I too pray that the new Pope will be just as great as John Paul II but I agree that the world has lost a great Pope and man.

| Posted : Sunday, 3 April 2005 - 10:56 I must conquer. This is indeed a loss and John Paul II was a great man. Rather than being just sad about his passing, I think we should feel also lucky that we have lived during his life time. He was definitely one of the greater popes to head the Catholic Church.
I read an article today in a local newspaper that was telling about his childhood in Poland. The man did great things as a pope and a grown up but the article also mentioned the fact that his best childhood friend was a Jewish boy, son of neighbours. The man is 85 years old and lives in Israel today. He told the journalist how as kids they used to make a football out of leather scraps and buttons and also how when the pope came to Israel, they met and sort of fell on each other's necks with joy, calling each other their childhood nicknames.
This Pope did many great things not just for the Vatican and Catholics. In his life time he also helped many others from other religions and was, despite some conservative attitudes, one of the more open minded and enlightened popes. I join the hope that the next pope will be as good for humanity as this one was. May he rest in peace. Last Edited : Sunday, 3 April 2005 - 10:58 | SNOWMAN42 Joined 19/01/2002 Posts : 168

If people want to share their thoughts on the Pope, they can do it if they want, no one is making you read this thread. | | gueritol Joined 7/02/2003 Posts : 2470
| Posted : Monday, 4 April 2005 - 06:53 It is a great loss to us all, not as persons but as a beacon. I think physically lately he was suffering a lot, it is good that he doesn't have to endure any more suffering, and it's ready to enjoy his well deserved retirement in heaven.

| Posted : Tuesday, 19 April 2005 - 12:30 The latest news is that a new Pope has been elected, but it hasn't as yet been formally announced so I don't even know for sure that this is true much less which of the Cardinals has been chosen.
PS: As mentioned elsewhere, if this news is not of interest, no one is asking anyone to read here, but I assure all that even non-Catholics have been speculating on this news for the past two weeks. *(edit)* I'm so happy and excited to know who the new Pope is I spelled "no as know".
