| Posted : Friday, 21 November 2003 - 18:21 Uhm Boris, I apreciate it if you don't randomly intersect messages that look like random characters to me, in random posts directed at random people in random threads.
You know it's unpolite to speak foreign among people who can't understand you. | | Fanatic Joined 12/01/2003 Posts : 1148

Any Bulgarians care to translate this last half? I'm not figuring it out.

| Posted : Friday, 21 November 2003 - 22:20 Ever thought that you were speaking foreign to him,Eg? Christ,i don't care if i'm the only one to stand up for him, even if he is an annoying *******.There's just as many English speaking people that annoy me!!!
The bravest person in wol happens to be Morbius.I don't neccessarily agree with all he says,BUT he has the bottle to take on causes, probably just because the majority of players are American and he's taking the role of underdog. The World is the WORLD and no amount of spite at someone elses expense is justified. Whether *Boris gets over you, just get over *Boris 'cos you've got him outnumbered...Ever thought about thet? | | Floyd-O-Matic Joined 27/08/2001 Posts : 2448
| Posted : Friday, 21 November 2003 - 23:25 Wow, I thought the majority of the players were from Australia and New Zealand . . . Well the good ones anyway. I've gotten some cryptic messages from him, but he's doing his best, I think. | | tarim Joined 18/10/2002 Posts : 2372

| Posted : Monday, 24 November 2003 - 14:20 Tarim: English is foreign to me, but bulgarian is foreign to to this forum.
He could message in Bulgarian in PMs, on his clan forum, and heck I'm ok with him starting a Bulgarian thread in general chit chat or whatnot. I participated in the same on the Dominion forums (Dutch threads) even though it annoyed more than one person, given the spamlike tendencies of some dutch. But in english strategy threads directed at people that don't even understand Bulgarian it's kinda annoying.
------------------- Ok on second thought I can understand your post if it was posted after Boris edited his post and changed it to english and you saw me replying about what you thought was his english post. I wasn't referring to the brokenness of his english but rather to the 'ïåäåðàñò, íà âñè÷êîòî îòãîðå'. My own posts aren't perfect english either. | | Fanatic Joined 12/01/2003 Posts : 1148

| Posted : Tuesday, 25 November 2003 - 20:56 Thanks for the English to English translation Eg. Though based on boes comments I'd guess your translation is inaccurate.
No good translations for it boe? Hmmm, to bad.

| Posted : Wednesday, 26 November 2003 - 13:32 Initially I thought of adding some extra rules regarding gentlemanly behaviour and personal code of conduct both on and off the battlefield. But after a some thought, I reached the (possibly wrong) conclusion that translation issues, culture differences and sometimes even age problems might open this for a wider, even more insulting debate. So instead I decided to give you my version of the 10 rules, or at least additional 10 rules which would/should make our lives far more pleasant.
1. Log into WOL (only) to have fun…! 2. WOL gaming is fun so… it MUST be accompanied by chocolate or alcohol. 3. Show respect to everyone, newbies and veterans alike (even to the nutters), both on the battlefield and the forums. 4. Use the abundance of information gathered by veteran players and ask questions. 5. Invite your friends to join. Minimise girlfriend, wife or parents exposure to WOL. 6. Join a Clan. ... NO, Not a commune, A CLAN! 7. Own-up to your clan/game/allies duties and your personal conduct, whatever it might be. 8. Do NOT bite your fingernails or refresh the screen every 20 secs. (…your Comms are doomed anyhow) 9. Visit Australia! Req promised room & board to any player who visits him. 10. Log out of WOL only under extreme pressure or dire circumstances. …and then log back in again.
Stick to this strategy and no one will refer you to the chit-chat forum claiming you’re a complete lunatic. Hurrah!!!

| Posted : Monday, 1 December 2003 - 11:22 Fanatic, well done these rules would work well if one could always use them. As per your discussion later on in this topic you started talking a little about tactics... can I say that a defensive troop makes a good wedge to drive back an opposing force when not with their backs to the wall. I don't think enough people take advantage of the defense option as well nothing was said about using comms properly. Most people that I've seen only use the comms they start with(maybe put out 1 more group) and then don't try and deploy any more than that. What I mean by this is that I hardly ever see any one use them in an offensive campaign! The value of comms offensive is almost insurmountable when it comes to something as cheesey as palisade and an outpost maybe or if you got the gold and resources a tower. Archers become quite deadly with a range of 9 and Ballista with a range of 11. I haven't said anything about marksmen because personally i don't usually get that far until later in the game. (I'm at turn 40 in one game and only have master melee because of a castle i took, and to be quite honest didn't even have expert melee until I took the barrack!) I fought mostly with ranged but that was because my defensive pikesman were able to push the opposing force back while my comms built palisades and (only)1 tower to give my ballista a chance to pick'em off. Once the proper structers were built I pulled back my melee troops following rule#6 and let my ranged take care of things. with a range of 11 I didn't need worry about rule#7 so much! Sorry to stray from the topic but I just thought maybe rules #6&7 should be combined and add something about comms/buildings ie. palisades, towers, or even outpost help. Thanks again for the guidelines and we would all be better off trying to follow them! | | Fanatic Joined 12/01/2003 Posts : 1148
| Posted : Monday, 1 December 2003 - 16:36 Thanks Exxo. I could loosely put using comms under proper troop deployment, but by the same token one could also write a whole thesis on proper use of comms in battle too, such that they could easily fall into their own category. | Posted : Monday, 1 December 2003 - 20:07 True dat Fanatic... I recently was threatened with the wrath of 3 players if I did not come out of my entrenchments to face a force that would EASILY decimate my own. I find it funny that when one player outsmarts another on a VERY strategic level his chivalry and honor code go out the window. (no names) but this guy has groups in the 100's and at least one of 300+ archers I saw breifly. The only thing above advanced melee that I have is a barracks with 7 heavy cavlary wich the barracks is able to produce but I have still not purchased any upgrades past pikemen, squires or ballista and have no siege weapons. He would be able to Rip me to shreds yet my defensive structures have him scared to the point he has enlisted aid from his allies who just happen to be the only 2 guys left besides him and myself. Its funny only because this is my first ranked game and I'm already in the top 4(last 4) so I'll get rank points either way. Maybe I'll right that comm thesis/doctrine. | | Crovax Joined 7/01/2003 Posts : 595
| Posted : Wednesday, 3 December 2003 - 13:20 well that was their first mistake... making archers good luck in your game. | | gueritol Joined 7/02/2003 Posts : 2470
| Posted : Friday, 5 December 2003 - 07:06 Personally I do not use archers, but I seen players use them in big (I should say BIG) stacks, and lot's of them. And apparently work for them.
But again big stacks, and lots of them, is not always easy to come by.
Plus you also need to protect them very well because they don't move that good, and they die fast. | | Luca Blight Joined 22/01/2002 Posts : 104
